Thanks to all

A big thank you to everyone who participated in the 2013 Asheville MUni Round Up!

We’re very pleased that it was a safe event – aside from a few scraps, sprains, and stings – we’re grateful that everyone left in one piece!

I would also like to thank Ross for his dedication to helping pull this festival off. Thanks Ross! Your leadership made the difference.

Also thanks to Bill Spears for keeping the fire going — I mean the campfire! And a high five to Jeff Ray for donating the huge tarp to keep us dry.

Thanks Jeff Ford for grabbing my unicycle off of the bee hive. Without you I’m certain my one wheel would still be in Bent Creek.

Of course, most of the gratitude goes to all of you who traveled to join us (Florida crew gets the distance award again!)

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, much credit is due to the Lake Powhatan campground enforcement team that kept us in line (and in the right direction). Cheers to them!

Can’t wait until next year!

Just a Week Away!

The 2013 Asheville MUni Round-Up is just a week away. Thirty folks have registered for the gathering – that’s nearly as big as it’s every been. The weather here in Asheville is lovely – the temperature is cool and the first bits of fall color are appearing.

Here are a few announcements to help you get organized for the Round-Up:

  • Our first organized ride of the weekend will meet at 4:00 pm on Friday at the Lake Powhatan “beach” parking area (for a map see SCHEDULE OF RIDES/DIRECTIONS on the blog). That ride will leave no later than 4:30. Keep in mind that the parking area requires a $2 fee per person to enter if you are not camping.  If you’d like to avoid the fee you can park at a number of different parking area outside on the fee area which will require a short ride. We might suggest parking at the Hard Times Trailhead and cycling in. The Hard Times Trailhead is on the left just before entering the fee area.
  • We’ll have photocopies of a map for our ride. However, if you prefer a map with color that you can actually read, you should stop off on your way into Bent Creek at one of several cycling shops. Once you exit I-26 on the way to Bent Creek you’ll pass two shops on your left with maps for sale: Motion Makers and Carolina Fatz. You can also print a map from the blog (go to SCHEDULE OF RIDES/DIRECTIONS).
  • We will not coordinate dinner plans for Friday night, however, we’ll have plenty of suggestions for folks to gather if you desire.

Before you leave on Friday, please check the SCHEDULE OF RIDES/DIRECTIONS for a final schedule for the weekend. We may tweak a few things between now and then.

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone in a week. Please drive safely.
